Mythology & Meaning

Shirdi Sai Baba (1838-1918) was a renowned spiritual master and fakir. He was revered as a saint by his followers. He had both Muslim and Hindu followers, and it remains unclear which religion he was more closely aligned with in this life for he believed that it was not important. What really matters, according to his teachings, is that we walk the path of divine consciousness.

Shirdi Sai Baba is still very popular, especially in India, but he has many followers around the world. He did not care about temporal wordly things, but rather focused on self-realization and fulfillment.

He taught about love, forgiveness, helping others, giving, contentment, inner peace, and faith. He did not discriminate between people based on their religion or caste. He combined both Hinduism and Islam in his teachings. His favorite saying, “One God above all,” comes from Muslim and Sufi beliefs.

Sai Baba was buried in Shirdi.
